TEHRAN, Iran: The Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif has said that we are striving for bringing peace in Afghanistan for a decade, and if the peace prevails in the war-torn Country, it will have a deep impact on the entire region.

Talking to the Iranian media in Tehran where the minister reached earlier in the day on a day-long visit to discuss matters of mutual interests and regional situation, Khawaja Asif said that the US army has failed to resolve the issues of Afghanistan.

The minister stressed that there is no military solution of Afghan issue; rather, it should be resolved politically.

Meanwhile, Khawaja Asif held separate meetings with the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and the Iranian Foreign Minister Javed Zarif in Tehran.

During the meetings, views on latest regional situation and different aspects of the bilateral relations were exchanged.

Likewise, the new United States policy towards South Asia and the future of Afghan war also came under discussion during the meetings.

Khawaja Asif was accompanied by the National Security Adviser Nasser Janjua and the Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua.

Sources said that Pak-Iran bilateral ties are on bumpy diplomatic road since long as Pakistan’s foreign policy remained more friendly towards Saudi Arabia whereas Iran demonstrated tilt towards India.

Iranians believe that Pakistan suspended Iran-Pakistan (IP) pipeline, bowing down to the United States and Saudi Arabia, and opted US-backed Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline while Pakistan believes that Iranian soil had been used to destabilise Pakistan by India.
