WASHINGTON: The Federal Minister for Interior, Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal on Tuesday said Pakistan wanted to work with the United States to bring peace to Afghanistan because Pakistan’s economic and security gains were at risk from continued instability in Afghanistan.

The minister made these remarks on Capitol Hill in Washington while talking to the Senator Lindsey Graham, a senior Republican who serves on four US Senate Committees: Appropriations, Armed Services, Judiciary and Budget.

Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry was also present in the meeting during which Pak-US bilateral relations and the regional situation came under discussion.

Senator Lindsey Graham agreed with the minister that sustained engagement between Pakistan and the United States remained critical to achieving peace in Afghanistan.

The interior minister briefed Senator Lindsey Graham on Pakistan’s success in combating terrorism, and the investment climate which had improved significantly after improvement in security situation. He also briefed him on Pakistan’s National Action Plan (NAP) for combating terrorism, which was implemented in 2015 to combat terrorism.

Ahsan Iqbal said the improvement in the Country’s security environment had made Pakistan an attractive destination for foreign investment.
