RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussian has said that Pakistan attaches great importance to South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and wishes to see it as a vibrant regional organization.
In a meeting with the Commander Sri Lankan Navy Vice Admiral RC Wijegunaratne at the Ministry of Defence production in Rawalpindi on Thursday, the minister said that it is Pakistan’s ardent desire to promote peace and cooperation in South Asia.
The minister said that Pakistan desires Sri Lanka and other countries of the region to make SAARC an effective organization in order to promote good relation between the countries of the region, so that our people may benefit from the fruits of the regional cooperation.
Rana Tanveer further said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Sri Lanka, the ties have grown to the great extent over the last six decades. He said that the warmth of the bilateral relations is amply reflective of the exchanges at the leadership level.
The minister for defence production said that there is a considerable potential for cooperation between the two countries. He said that Pakistan has always proposed futuristic cooperation to Sri Lanka.
Rana Tanveer said that said that Pakistan and Sri Lanka could also cooperate in counter terrorism in a comprehensive manner including sharing of experience and working together to eliminate this menace.
The Secretary Defence Production Lt General (retd) Syed Muhammad Owais was also present.
