MARRAKECH, Morocco: Federal Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid Wednesday held a bilateral meeting with Turkish Minister for Environment and Urbanization on sideline conference “COP-22” in Morocco.

The minister said that Pakistan and Turkey were working on many projects like solid waste management and metro mass transit system, adding “We hope to increase the cooperation as both countries have brotherly and friendly relations”.

Talking about Climate Change related issues he said our people were resilient to climate change effects despite its many effects, they have faced.

The Minister said that Pakistan was at 135th country on the list of emitting states.

He said that Pakistan was facing droughts, sea intrusion and floods like situations due to glacier melting.

“Pakistan has taken many initiatives to combat climate change effects including Climate Change Policy, Disaster Risk Reduction Policy and adaptation sustainable development goals as well,” the Minister said.

He said that Pakistan China Economic Corridor (CPEC) was a precursor for economic development in the region. Emission level of gases would also go up, he pointed out.

“The first consignment has reached Pakistan through economic corridor,” Zahid Hamid said.

“We whole heartedly support Pakistan whenever its name is taken on international forums” Turkish Minister for Environment and Urbanization said.

The Pakistani delegation included Secretary Ministry of climate Change Syed Ahmad Abu Akif, Director General Environment Irfan Tariq, Imran from UN desk of foreign office and Zile Huma Public Relations Officer to ministry of climate change.
