Government of PakistanPakistan took effective steps against terror financing: Minister

LAHORE, Pakistan: The Minister for Interior Ahsan Iqbal on Saturday said Pakistan had taken effective steps against money laundering and terror financing.

Talking to media representatives in Lahore, the minister said over the last four years, Pakistan had registered great successes in the war on terror.

The minister said Pakistan’s enemy was threatening of surgical strikes and hatching conspiracies while some elements were trying to malign Pakistan.

Ahsan Iqbal said it was time to get united to foil enemies’ conspiracies. He said all political forces should remain united for supremacy of the Parliament

“We must not compromise national integrity,” he said adding the Parliament was Supreme institution of the Country.

Earlier on Friday, the three-day Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Plenary meeting concluded in Paris following discussions on combatting terrorist financing including the adoption of a new counter-terrorist financing operational plan.

Though Pakistan escaped the US-sponsored motion to put it on FATF’s grey list but in June 2018, it would be under re-consideration by the global watchdog for being placed in the list for failing to ensure concrete measures against terrorist financing and money laundering.

Meanwhile while addressing a workshop in Lahore earlier in the day, Ahsan Iqbal said the youth had a crucial role in economic development of a Country.

“The future of Pakistan is linked with its youth, he said adding youth must be trained as per the future requirements.

The interior minister said the incumbent government was making concerted efforts to make the youth an asset of the Country.

“We are digitally empowering the youth to ensure their contribution in the process of progress and prosperity,” he said.

The minister said Pakistan was included in the Countries where youth was in majority.
