ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Security Committee (NSC) on Wednesday decided to keep a robust defense posture to ensure national security in a challenging environment.

The decision was taken in 13th NSC meeting held in Islamabad with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in the Chair.

The Committee reviewed internal and external security situation and the threats and challenges to national security in the evolving regional and global context. It also discussed the US President Donald Trump’s policy on South Asia with especial emphasize on Afghanistan.

The Committee decided to set up an interagency sub-committee to make specific proposals for consideration in the next meeting of the NSC along with the recommendations/outcome of the forthcoming Envoys’ Conference of select missions scheduled for September 5-7, 2017.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Defence Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan, Minister for Finance Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Foreign Affairs Khawaja Muhammad Asif, and Minister for Interior Ahsan Iqbal.

Likewise, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, National Security Advisor Lt. General (retd) Nasser Khan Janjua, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt. General Naveed Mukhtar and senior civil and military officials were also present in the meeting.
