LAHORE, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique on Saturday said the Pakistan Railways would progress at double speed if the people gave Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) another chance to serve them in the next elections.

While addressing the media at closing ceremony of the 62nd Pakistan Railways Inter-Divisional Athletic Championship, organised at the Railway Stadium in Lahore, he said that the Pakistan Railways had achieved several successes and development during the current era and still a long journey was there to cover.

The minister said the Pakistan Railways was on the right track and its administration was seriously working for progress of the department. He said that some people said that Pakistan Railways minister practiced politics.

“I tell them, ‘yes, I practice politics, as a political worker should do it, but I do not compromise on the work of the railways,” he added.

Khawaja Saad Rafique appreciated the Pakistan Railways Chairperson Parveen Agha and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Javaid Anwar Boobak and said the Railways made progress under the leadership of these officers with the help of workers.

The minister announced increase of Rs 5 million in the Pakistan Railways budget for sports by taking it to Rs 350 million. He also ordered for decorating the railway stadium.

Earlier, the minister distributed prizes among the winning players of the championship.
