LAHORE, Pakistan: The Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed on Saturday announced to give lands of Pakistan Railways on lease for five years, a day after the Supreme Court of Pakistan allowed Railways to lease its lands for a maximum period of five years but barred it from selling these.

Earlier on Friday, a three-member Supreme Court Bench headed by the Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar barred Railways from selling its lands. The Bench also said that the land which is not required for Railways Operation can be leased out for a period of five years.

While address a Press Conference in Lahore, Sheikh Rasheed also said that salaries of Railways Police will be equalized to those of Punjab Police.

The minister said that tracers will be installed in Railway Engines this month. “I wish Prime Minister Imran Khan to inaugurate the tracker system,” he said.

Sheikh Rasheed said that Railways will also launch its FM Radio Channel on public-private-partnership basis.

The railways minister further said that concrete steps have been taken for eradication of corruption in Pakistan Railways.
