Government of PakistanPakistan in FATF grey list: Situation will be better by June, says...

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb on Friday said though Pakistan was expected to be assigned to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) ‘grey list’ in June 2018 but since they still had three-month time, situation would become better by then.

Talking to media representatives outside the Accountability Court in Islamabad, Marriyum Aurangzeb said they would have to look that how many times Pakistan’s name had been placed in FATF blacklist.

The minister said Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif and Advisor to Finance Ministry Miftah Ismail were looking into that matter.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said due to their efforts, Pakistan’s name was removed from the FATF grey list in 2015.

On February 28, the Foreign Office Spokesman Dr Muhammad Faisal confirmed to media that “Pakistan will be assigned to the ‘grey list’ in June, once an Action Plan has been mutually negotiated,” ending the media speculations about Pakistan to be re-included in FATF terror financing watchlist.

Dr Faisal also said over the last few years, Pakistan had taken a number of measures to address certain deficiencies as highlighted by the FATF in the anti-money laundering and countering of terrorist financing framework of Pakistan.

“We will take further actions for addressing any remaining deficiencies,” the Spokesman said.
