ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Mamnoon Hussain has said that Pakistan desires stronger bilateral ties with Malaysia, Jordan and Vietnam, and called for a greater focus on trade, investment and people-to-people ties.

The president made these remarks while talking to the outgoing High Commissioner of Malaysia Dr. Hasrul Sani bin Mujtabar, outgoing ambassador of Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Luu and ambassador-designate of Pakistan to Jordan Major General (retd) Junaid Rehmat in separate meetings held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on Friday.

In his meeting with the Malaysian High Commissioner, the president said that Malaysia has witnessed remarkable progress in various sectors and termed it an example for other countries.

The president said that Pakistan and Malaysia are close friends, and their bilateral relations are based on shared beliefs, heritage and history.

President Mamnoon expressed hope that the new ambassador of Malaysia would work for further strengthening the bilateral relations between the two Countries, and follow in the footsteps of the outgoing Ambassador Dr. Hasrul Sani bin Mujtabar.

Mamnoon Hussain further said that Malaysia can benefit from economical and quality products of Pakistan. He said that there should also be close cooperation between the educational institutions of the both countries.

Talking to the outgoing ambassador of Vietnam, the president appreciated his remarkable services and hoped that the outgoing ambassador was taking back with him pleasant memories from Pakistan. He said that Vietnam can benefit from the training institutions of Pakistan for the training of its officers.

Separately talking to ambassador-designate of Pakistan to Jordan, the president called for further expanding relations between Pakistan and Jordan.

The president hoped that ambassador-designate would perform his new responsibilities efficiently. He also directed the ambassador-designate to make all possible efforts for the welfare of overseas Pakistanis residing in Jordan.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
