ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan has reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further deepen its brotherly ties with Afghanistan and enhance the bilateral cooperation in all fields.

Talking to the Chairman Afghan High Council for National Reconciliation Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on phone on Wednesday, the prime minister emphasized the importance of Pakistan-Afghanistan bilateral relations.

The prime minister said that their bilateral ties are based on commonalities of faith and culture, shared history, and fraternal bonds between the two peoples.

Imran Khan noted that there is no military solution to the conflict in Afghanistan and a negotiated political settlement is the only way forward. Highlighting Pakistan's positive contribution to the Afghan peace process, the prime minister stressed that the Afghan leaders must seize this historic opportunity to achieve an inclusive political settlement contributing to durable peace, security and prosperity in Afghanistan. The prime minister said that Pakistan looks forward to the commencement of Intra-Afghan negotiations at the earliest. The Prime Minister invited Dr Abdullah Abdullah to visit Pakistan at the earliest to share perspective on advancing the Afghan peace process and forging closer ties between the two Countries.

Imran Khan noted that there is no military solution to the conflict in Afghanistan and a negotiated political settlement is the only way forward.

Highlighting Pakistan’s positive contribution to the Afghan peace process, the prime minister stressed that the Afghan leaders must seize this historic opportunity to achieve an inclusive political settlement contributing to durable peace, security, and prosperity in Afghanistan.

The prime minister said that Pakistan looks forward to the commencement of Intra-Afghan negotiations at the earliest.

The Prime Minister invited Dr. Abdullah Abdullah to visit Pakistan at the earliest to share perspective on advancing the Afghan peace process and forging closer ties between the two Countries.

In a Twitter statement, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah said that during the telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Imran Khan, he appreciated Pakistan’s support for the Afgha peace process.

Dr. Abdullah said that we reiterated on the unique opportunity to reduce violence, start the intra-afghan talks, and pursue a path to a dignified & durable peace.

The Head of Afghan National Reconciliation Council also said that he thanked the prime minister for extending an invitation, and announced to visit Pakistan in the near future.
