Government of PakistanPakistan believes in functioning relationship with US: Foreign Minister

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister for Foreign Affairs Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Friday said Pakistan believed in a functioning relationship with the United States based on mutual respect and trust, which was in the interest of the region.

While speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, Khawaja Asif said after a negative tweet of the US President Donald Trump, Pakistani leadership decided that Pakistan’s response would be measured. He said the National Security Committee in its meetings afterwards took stock of the entire situation.

The minister said during recent high-level engagements with the visiting US delegations, they were told that the unwarranted allegations by the US president belied the cooperative history of the relationship which served mutual interests in the region.

Khawaja Asif said despite the accusations, Pakistan remained committed to the stability of region and supported all efforts towards an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process. He said the people of Pakistan were prepared to defend their honor, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the homeland.

Moreover, the foreign affairs minister said Unity of Muslim Ummah was need of the hour, adding Pakistan had to play a key role in resolving issues pertaining to Muslim Ummah.

The minister said Pakistan wouldn’t become proxy of any other Country. He said in the past, elements within themselves were facilitators of their enemies, adding they repeated mistakes instead of correcting themselves.
