ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Pakistan Kjell Gunnar Eriksen has appreciated the newly promulgated Renewable Energy Policy of Pakistan and expressed the hope that Norway will forge cooperation with Pakistan in the field of renewable energy.

In a meeting with the Federal Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan at his Office in Islamabad on Wednesday, the ambassador apprised the minister of the ongoing Norwegian’s projects in the energy sector.

Omar Ayub told the envoy that Pakistan has embarked upon taping huge indigenous potential of renewable energy. The minister said that the government has set an ambitious target to introduce 25 percent renewable energy by 2025 and 30 percent by end of 2030 including 40 percent share of hydel power generation into energy mix of the Country. The federal minister said that Pakistan's new Renewable Energy Policy would bring opportunities for investors due to transparent policies of the current government.  The minister also highlighted that the government would induct renewable energy-based power plants through open and competitive bidding in transparent manner. He said that the government would also encourage the transfer of technology in these projects.  The federal minister said that the government is focusing on manufacturing and assembly of wind turbines and solar panels in Pakistan.  The Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Power Tabish Gouhar also attended the meeting.
