ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has assured that no restrictions are being imposed on social media but it can also not be left unbridled.

While addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, the minister said that there is no check and balance on social media; therefore, the federal government wants to ensure that the Country’s laws should not be flayed by those using social media.

The interior minister said that the Constitution of Pakistan bars assailing and maligning the armed forces and judiciary; therefore, the social media cannot be allowed to violate the Constitution.

The minister said that negative campaign to malign the armed forces was intolerable; and therefore, prompt indiscriminate action was taken against such elements.

Nisar said that with consultation of journalist organizations, a journalist committee of national interest is being constituted.

Furthermore, the minister said that uploading of blasphemous content on social media from abroad will be blocked with the cooperation of service providers.

The interior minister said that social media posts will be strictly monitored, and it will be brought under a code of conduct.
