Government of PakistanNawaz Sharif unlikely to appear before JIT on June 15

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is not likely to appear before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) in Panama Case on Thursday, sources said on Tuesday.

The JIT formed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan to further probe Panama allegations has asked the prime minister to appear before it along with relevant record and documents at 11:00 am on June 15.

But sources claimed that the prime minister is unlikely to appear before the JIT on June 15 and a prior application will be presented to the JIT in this regard.

Sources further said that the prime minister is likely to visit Kuwait and Qatar to de-escalate tension between Gulf States.

However, the claim has not been verified yet by the government officials while according to some other sources, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is planning to hold a power show outside the Federal Judicial Academy in Islamabad during the prime minister’s appearance before the JIT.

Meanwhile talking to media in Lahore, the Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the Joint Investigation Team had become controversial. He said that picture’s leak was an attempt to damage reputation of Sharif family.

Rana Sanaullah questioned that why did JIT not take action against the person who leaked picture? He was of the view that no one could present 50-year old record within 24 hours.

So far the JIT headed by the Additional Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Wajid Zia has summoned Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s elder son Hussain Nawaz five times and younger son Hassan Nawaz twice to appear before it at Federal Judicial Academy.

Earlier on Monday, the JIT submitted its report to the Supreme Court in which it unearthed impediments being faced by it in smooth and transparent investigation into the Panama Case. The JIT told that not only had some governmental departments were showing reluctance in handing over relevant records but some records had also been tampered with.
