MULTAN, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday inaugurated nearly Rs 29 billion Multan Metro Bus Project which was expected to facilitate 97,000 commuters daily.

The Inauguration Ceremony was held in the Chungi No 9 area of Multan wherein Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and other high-ranking officials were also present.

While briefing about the project at the Inauguration Ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner Nadir Chattha told that the 18.5 kilometers long track of Multan Metro Bus Project was completed at a cost of over Rs 28.88 billion.

It included 21 Bus Stations and initially 35 buses would be run by which approximately 97,000 people would travel daily.

The technical advisor of the Multan Metro Bus Project Sabir Khan Sadozai said that 2,600 jobs would be created over time due to the project. He said that escalators, lifts, generators, expansion joints and launching pads of the project had been imported from Europe.

Sabir Khan Sadozai said that the number of buses would be increased if needed. He added that the Punjab government would also run shuttles on a feeder route to let commuters reach metro track from different parts of Multan City.

Moreover, he said that the life of the project was 50 years; however, it could be useful for 100 years if managed properly.
