Government of PakistanNational Security Committee terms Nawaz Sharif’s statement ‘incorrect and misleading’

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Security Committee (NSC) in its meeting held in Islamabad on Monday reviewed the recent statement by the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the context of Mumbai attacks as it appeared in the Daily Dawn of May 12, 2018, and unanimously termed this statement as incorrect and misleading.

The 22nd meeting of the NSC was Chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi at Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad.

The meeting was attended by the the Minister for Defence & Foreign Affairs Khurram Dastgir Khan, the Minister for Finance, Revenue & Economic Affairs Miftah Ismail, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, the Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan, the Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt. General Naveed Mukhtar, the National Security Adviser Lt General (retd) Nasser Khan Janjua, and senior civil and military officials.

The participants of the meeting observed that it was very unfortunate that the opinion arising out of either misconceptions or grievances was being presented in disregard of concrete facts and realities.

The participants unanimously rejected the allegations and condemned the fallacious assertions.

The meeting recalled that it was not Pakistan but India that has delayed the finalization of the 2008 Mumbai attacks case.

Besides many other refusals during the investigation, the denial of access to the principal accused Ajmal Qasab and his extraordinarily hurried execution became the core impediment in the finalization of the trial. At the same time, Pakistan continues to wait for cooperation from India on the infamous Kulbhushan Jadhav and Samjhota Express episodes.

The national security committee resolved that Pakistan shall continue to play its due role in fighting the war against terrorism at all fronts.

According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
