ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Ministry of Information Technology and telecommunication aimed to provide affordable connectivity and access, ICT services to connect the unconnected people.

In the continuity of the vision of “Digital Pakistan” Minister for Information Technology Anusha Rehman on Friday inaugurated Internet Exchange Point (IXP) at Higher education Commission (HEC).

“We aimed to connect the unconnected and aimed to provide ICT services to the youth of while country what will surely change the fate of the people of unserved and underserved areas,” the minister said.

Anusha said “No government can work alone we need to work as a team by the public and private sector so we could be able to achieve universal goals.

In last 3 years, she said that the private sector has volunteered itself to all public sector’s initiative although there was some reluctance in the past. “Public and private sector have now teamed us to overcome hurdles.”

“In the vision of digital Pakistan we aim to provide 3G and 4G facility to Sibi, Loralai, Kalat, Chaghi, Pashin, and backward areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA,” she added.

In the vision of Digital Pakistan we were connecting every signal village with a hundred population and those who don’t even have a PTCL facility would have mobile connectivity.

Anusha had also shared the achievements of Pakistan in the arena of ICT with the global community and will also share her continued focus to enable transformation of the country into a “Digital Pakistan”.

The World Economic Forum has created a personalized agenda for the participation of the Pakistan’s Minister for IT in its year’s event.

She also spoke in sessions including Digital Economy, New developments in technology, innovative policy-making, and promotion of entrepreneurship.

The information and communication technology (ICT) initiative for girls empowerment organized by ministry of information technology in collaboration with Bait-ul-mal, Universal Services Fund and Microsoft.

“We aim to reach thousands of girls enrolled in Bait-ul-Mal women empowerment centers across the country by providing those fully equipped computer labs and a comprehensive computer software training and coaching programme under the auspices of Microsoft”, said Anusha.

Chairman PTA Dr Ismail Shah said, “PTA took the leading role and started a consultation process with all the stakeholders together to reach a consensus on establishing the first IXP of Pakistan”

“International best practices were followed and five working groups were formed having representation from all stakeholders, focusing on all aspect of establishment of IXP for Pakistan,” he said.
