KARACHI, Pakistan: The Caretaker Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Ali Zafar on Saturday said holding of transparent, peaceful and timely elections was the prime responsibility of the Caretaker government.
Talking to media persons in Karachi after visiting the Mazar-e-Quaid wherein he inaugurated a water treatment plant, he urged media to create awareness among people in that regard.
“Media Should play its role in creating awareness among voters. Conducting free, fair and timely polls is our responsibility,” he said.
The minister said formulation of electoral code of conduct was a prerogative of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Caretaker government was bound to ensure its implementation.
The information minister said similarly Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) was autonomous in its decisions; however, the government could only facilitate it in implementing its decision.
Barrister Ali Zafar also laid floral wreath on Mazar of founder of the nation, and offered Fateha. He was also briefed by the administration of the Mazar about the various issues of Mazar.
