Government of PakistanMinister demands probe into conduct of Panama JIT

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister of State for Information Technology Anusha Rehman has demanded that another Joint Investigation Team (JIT) should be formed over Panama JIT which, according to her, overstepped from its mandate given by the Supreme Court.

While talking to media in Islamabad on Wednesday, the minister termed the report of the JIT as a piece of trash, adding that the JIT recommendations are not final.

The state minister said that there are allegations on the head of JIT Wajid Zia, the Additional Director General in Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). She said that the JIT head assigned the task to his cousin’s private company in the United Kingdom which is abuse of power.

Anusha Rehman said that the JIT has twisted statements, and it also used objectionable language while interrogating.

The minister said that tax payers’ money used by the JIT would be questioned in the Parliament as we will raise this issue in the House.

Furthermore, she said that efforts have been made to hurt Maryam Nawaz’s political career. She expressed confidence that Nawaz Sharif will win the next general elections as well.

Meanwhile, the three-member implementation bench of the Supreme Court heard the Panama Papers Case during which the prime minister’s Counsel Khawaja Haris completed his arguments while the Counsel of prime minister’s Children Salman Akram Raja sought further time from the Court.

Salman Akram Raja said that some important documents were coming from Dubai and Abu Dhabi which would be handed over to the Supreme Court tomorrow.

The Finance Minister Ishaq Dar’s Counsel Dr Tariq Hassan also submitted his arguments before the Bench.
