ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb on Saturday said media in Pakistan was free and vibrant but also noted that media had faced many challenges in the Country.
In her address at the South Asia Media Conference in Islamabad, the minister said the Parliament had recently passed an important right to information act which gave access to information to the media representatives and the public at large.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said the importance of media could not be neglected in the current era. She said the responsibilities of media fluctuated as the situation changed.
The information minister said water problem was the main issue of South Asian region. Therefore, she added, media must also focus on issues such as water and population apart from the political issues.
The minister also emphasized the need for greater people to people contacts in the South Asian region for conflict resolution.
Marriyum Aurangzeb also said Pakistan was going through defining moments. She said for the first time they were completing 10 years of democracy without any interruption.
