ASTANA, Kazakhstan: President Mamnoon Hussain reached Kazakhstan on Saturday to attend the first Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Science and Technology.

The two-day Summit from September 10 to September 11 would take place in Astana, at which the discussion would cover wide range of issues related to scientific and technological issues, innovation and scientific research.

Mamnoon is scheduled to stay in Astana for four days during which apart from attending OIC Summit on Science and Technology, he would also meet the Kazakhstan’s leadership including the Kazakh Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev.

The president would also hold bilateral meetings with presidents of Turkey, Bangladesh and Bosnia on the sidelines of the OIC Summit.

Mamnoon Hussain is one of the eight Islamic world leaders to deliver their statements at the inaugural session of the OIC Summit being attended by the heads of state and government from around 22 Muslim states and delegates from around 57 states.

In addition, President Mamnoon would also attend the closing ceremony of Astana Expo 2017 on Future Energy.

Upon his arrival at Astana Nazarbayev International Airport, the president and First Lady Begum Mehmooda Mamnoon Hussain were warmly received by Kazakh Minister of Defence and Aero Space Industry Beibit Atamkulov and Deputy Mayor Astana Amanshayev Yermek.

The ambassador of Pakistan in Kazakhstan Abdul Salik Khan and senior officials of the embassy were also present.

A traditionally attired girl presented a bouquet to the president which followed the salute by the static guards.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
