ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Security Adviser Lt General (retd) Nasser Khan Janjua on Tuesday said more than anyone else the sitting government of Afghanistan could play a major role to bring peace in the war-torn Country though collectively they had to find a way to a better future.

In a meeting with the British Prime Minister’s Special Representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan Gareth Bayley who along with the British High Commissioner to Pakistan Thomas Drew met him in Islamabad, the adviser explained the complexities of the perpetual conflict and highlighted the role played and contributions made by Pakistan to fight the menace of terrorism.

Nasser Janjua reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace and stability of the region, and said Pakistan had always supported all peace initiatives for Afghanistan.Kabul govt has bigger role to play for Afghanistan peace: Nasser Janjua

The adviser said Pakistan was sincere and committed to Afghanistan and its people. He said for sustainable peace in the region, peace in Afghanistan was a prerequisite.

“Peace in Afghanistan is peace in Pakistan,” Nasser Janjua said.

Lt General (retd) Nasser Janjua admired the efforts of the United Kingdom for investing in peace in Afghanistan, and said UK had always played a positive role for peace and stability of Afghanistan and the region.

The British Prime Minister’s Special Representative acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism and also highlighted the positive role of British government for a sustainable peace in Afghanistan.

Both sides agreed that it had to be a cooperative framework and both Pakistan and Afghanistan should resume engagements at all levels to include government, diplomatic, military, intelligence and more so from people to people.

They also agreed to strengthen Pakistan-UK cooperation to ensure lasting peace in Afghanistan and the region.
