ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Dr Arif Alvi has underlined that development in Information Technology (IT) and Telecommunication holds the key for the future development of the Country.

Talking to the Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on Friday, the president said that there is a huge potential of exports and employment generation in the Information Technology and Telecommunication Industry.

Therefore, all necessary measures should be taken to promote this sector, he added.

The president said that efficient use of IT and telecommunication can help in improving the public services delivery structure of the Country through digitalization of different ministries and departments of the government.

Dr Arif Alvi stressed that research and development in IT and telecommunication should be patronized to open up new avenues of progress in this sector.

The president also appreciated the step being taken by the ministry for the promotion of Information Technology and Telecommunication in the Country.

K-Electric delegation also met Dr Arif Alvi

Separately, a delegation of K-Electric comprising the Chairman K-Electric Tayyab Tareen, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Moonis Alvi, and the Chief Generation & Transmission Officer Dele Sinkler also met President Dr Arif Alvi in Islamabad today.

The delegation and briefed the president on the electricity requirements of the city and steps being taken to improve the system as per requirement.

Dr Arif Alvi said that all necessary measures should be taken to meet the electricity requirements of Karachi in the coming year.

The president stressed that in addition to power generation attention should also be paid to improve the power transmission system, decreasing the line losses and curbing theft of electricity for the provision of an uninterrupted supply of electricity to domestic and commercial consumers, as it is one of the priorities of the government.
