ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday asked writers and poets to build a counter narrative to eliminate extremism and terrorism from the Country.

In a meeting with members of Organizing Committee of Alami Mushaira-2017 Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad, the president said that intolerance in society and the menace of corruption can be overcome by promoting the teachings of Quaid-i-Azam and Allama Iqbal among people to ensure progress and prosperity of the Country adding that poets and writers can play an important role in this regard.

The president said that poets promote love for the Country among the new generation through their work.

President Mamnoon said that by following the footsteps of Allama Iqbal writers and poets should also highlight national objectives and the problems being faced by society. He added that holding of literary ceremonies are part of our cultural values as they are an important source of training the nations.

Mamnoon Hussain further said that holding of final match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Pakistan is a welcome development adding that it will promote positive image of the country in the world. He expressed optimism that international cricket in the country will be revived soon.

On the occasion, the members of Organizing Committee of Alami Mushaira-2017 also apprised the president about their issues. The president directed the department concerned to resolve their issues.
