Government of PakistanInt’l Symposium on Pakistan’s Hydropower Development held

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: An International Symposium Regarding Hydropower Development in Pakistan was held in Islamabad on Monday aimed at highlighting the prevailing technical and financial strategies for construction of dams and mega hydel power projects.

In his address at the symposium as the Chief Guest, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that 10 dams currently in the construction phase will double the Country’s storage capacity to irrigate more land and reduce the impact of Climate Change.

The prime minister regretted the indifference of previous governments to the construction of big water reservoirs. He pointed out that China constructed 5,000 dams whilst Pakistan only built two major dams back in 60s.

Imran Khan said that had the hydropower potential of the Country was tapped, the Country today would not have been faced with the issue rising prices of electricity and inflation.

The prime minister expressed satisfaction that his government whilst pursuing the forward looking approach decided to construct 10 dams in a decade time.
