ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan has welcomed the growing concern and demands by the international community, global leaders, United Nations Secretary General António Guterres, and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCR) Michelle Bachelet for India to lift its six-week long siege of the Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement on twitter on Monday, the prime minister said that the international community must not remain indifferent to the massive human rights abuses in Jammu and Kashmir by Occupation Indian forces under the cover of a brutal siege.

Earlier while speaking at the 42nd Session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, the UNHCR Michelle Bachelet expressed serious concerns over the prevailing human rights situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir.

Michelle Bachelet said that she is deeply concerned about the impact of recent actions by Indian government on the human rights of Kashmiris including restrictions on internet communications, peaceful assembly and the detention of local political leaders and activities.

The UN High Commissioner said that she has appealed India to ease the current lockdowns or curfews, ensure people’s access to basic services and that all due process rights are respected for those who have been detained.

Michelle Bachelet stressed that it is important the people of Kashmir are consulted and engaged in any decision-making processes that have an impact on their future.
