Government of PakistanGovt to increase women representation in all fields: Minister

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development (CAD), Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry Thursday said the government is taking effective measures for increasing women representation in all fields of life, strengthening the country’s workforce.

He was addressing the inaugural session of international conference on `Psychology and Gender in Perspective: Issues and Challenges’, arranged by National Institute of Psychology, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU).

“The developed countries have empowered women through giving them equal rights and utilizing their capabilities for development purposes.

Pakistan is also endeavouring to bring women in mainstream through giving them more opportunities so that they can play their role in the development of the country”, Tariq Fazal said.

The government has allocated 50 percent quota in Prime Minister Youth Loan Scheme to the poor especially women. Punjab government has also allocated 33 percent quota for women in all special boards which would ensure their role at decision making level and for voicing other women’ issues.

“Students are the future of the country and the ministry has initiated various programmes to bring reforms at primary, secondary and higher level”, he said.

Tariq Fazal said the government along with all the relevant ministries and departments is working on improving syllabus, teachers training, providing computer and science labs, giving scholarships and establishing more schools and colleges.

He said improvement in education sector will ultimately lead to reduction in poverty ratio.

QAU is listed amongst one of the best universities of the country in terms of providing quality education and conducting research. This seminar related to Psychology is a good initiative and will help highlight issues of women, he said.

Ambassador of Denmark in Pakistan, a large number of students and officials of Ministry of CAD attended the seminar.
