ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Monday paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad, a day before he will be replaced by General Qamar Javed Bajwa following his retirement.
During the meeting, the prime minister praised General Raheel Sharif for his valuable services rendered as Army Chief and extended his best wishes for his post retirement life and happiness for his family.
Separately, the COAS also paid a farewell call on President Mamnoon Hussain in Islamabad.
In his remarks, the president appreciated the valuable services rendered by General Raheel Sharif for the country.
The newly-appointed COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa will formally take charge on Tuesday from General Raheel Sharif.
The Change of Command Ceremony for the new COAS will take place in Rawalpindi at which the Outgoing Army Chief General Raheel Sharif will hand over the Command Stick to the General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
Meanwhile, General Zubair Mahmood Hayat has assumed the command of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
The formal ceremony in this regard was held in Rawalpindi on Monday where outgoing CJCSC General Rashad Mahmoud handed over the command to General Zubair Hayat.
On the occasion, General Zubair also inspected the guard of honour. He is the 17th head of Joint Chiefs of Committee.
