ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister of State for Information Technology Anusha Rehman has said that the federal government will formally inaugurate a “DigiSkills program” next month, under which one million people will be trained in the “Freelancing” online.

Talking to a three-member delegation of UN Women which led by the UN Women Pakistan Country Representative Jamshed Qazi met her in Islamabad on Monday, Anusha Rehman said that Pakistan is being ranked number 04 in the World in freelancing and now we are committed to further improve this ranking through the “DigiSkills program”.

Anusha Rehman said that UN-women has a great contribution in the arena of women empowerment throughout the globe. She said that UN Women and ITU both recognized our flagship project “ICT for Girls” in 2015 and recognized as global achiever.

The state minister apprised the delegates that we have established 150 state of the art computer labs in Women Empowerment Centres of Baitul Mal etc where thousands of girls of marginalized segments are learning modern techniques of Coding and computing through @Microsoft and earn their livelihood honorably while sitting at their homes as well.

The minister apprised that we are developing an online “Made in Pakistan” portal where we are bringing a cluster of 1000 companies on line which include carpet, furniture, leather and other such industries to further promote e-commerce in the Country.

The delegates appreciated the initiatives of the minister for the welfare an empowerment of women and girls.

Both the sides agreed to further explore the areas of mutual collaboration. The delegates thanked the minister for extending her cooperation to UN Women.
