KARACHI, Pakistan: The Federal government has replaced Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad with former Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqui after the former spent nearly 14 hours in Office.

The decision to replace Dr Ishratul Ibad was made during a meeting between President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Wednesday in which they discussed overall political and security situation in the country.

Meanwhile, Justice (retd) Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqui confirmed that he had been appointed as the new Sindh Governor, saying he would  try to restore permanent peace in Sindh province.

Sources said that Dr Ishratul Ibad himself had also asked the federal government to replace him.

Sources said that former Chief Justice Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqui was among three Candidates under consideration by the federal government for Sindh governorship. Nihal Hashmi and Mushahid Ullah Khan were two other Candidates for the Post.

Ishratul Ibad became Sindh’s youngest governor on December 27, 2002 as a representative of then President General Pervez Musharraf. Since July 16, 2008 he had the distinction of becoming the Sindh’s longest-serving governor. He served as Sindh governor for nearly 14 years.

During the meeting, the president and the prime minister also discussed other matters of national importance and said that no obstacle in the way of timely completion of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project would be tolerated.

The president appreciated the economic gains made by the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He said that it was a matter of great satisfaction that world financial institutions were also acknowledging economic performance of the government.
