ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Cabinet has approved electricity tariff adjustment of Rs 1 per unit for the next three months to provide relief to the people.

In its meeting held in Islamabad on Tuesday under the Chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Cabinet also approved the Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy, the Sambarial-Kharian Motorway, the import of urea from China, and the privatization of Guddu and Nandipur Power Plants.

Briefing the media about the decisions taken by the Federal Cabinet, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain told that the Cabinet also approved launching of a Housing Project on 400 kanals for Overseas Pakistanis.

The minister said that Overseas Pakistanis can procure apartments in the Housing Project through Roshan Digital Accounts. He said that the government will fetch around US$ 2 billion through the project.

The information minister told that the Federal Cabinet also directed to frame a policy to enable foreigners to procure land in Pakistan.

Regarding Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), the minister said that the Ministry of Science and Technology has been directed to provide EVMs to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold next elections in Islamabad through these machines to ensure transparency.

Furthermore, it has been decided that though the COVID curve is spiking once again following the arrival of Omicron, but no lockdown will be imposed in the Country as Pakistan’s economy cannot afford it.

The minister told that the Cabinet also approved to proceed against the Opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif in the Lahore High Court (LHC) for submitting a false affidavit in fraudulently escaping Nawaz Sharif abroad.

Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said that Shahbaz Sharif had submitted an affidavit guaranteeing return of his elder brother Nawaz Sharif who neither got any treatment nor returned to Pakistan. He said that Shahbaz Sharif was fully involved in Nawaz Sharif’s escape from the Country.

The information minister said that the government will pray the IHC that Shahbaz Sharif should be disqualified for submitting a false affidavit or he should be bound to bring back his brother as per promise.
