ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Defence Khurram Dastgir Khan on Monday said that the armed forces of the Country would be strengthened in terms of resources and equipment, so as to make defence of the Country impregnable.
In a statement after assuming charge of the Defence Ministry, Khurram Dastgir spelled out the priorities of his government, and said that national defence of the Country would be strengthened as it was confronting enormous internal and external challenges.
Earlier, the minister held introductory meeting with the senior officers of the Defence Ministry.
The defence minister was also briefed about the role and functions of the ministry and its allied organizations in detail.
Khurram Dastgir is part of the new Federal Cabinet of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi formed after Nawaz Sharif’s Cabinet was dissolved following his disqualification by the Supreme Court of Pakistan on July 28.
In previous Cabinet, Khurram Dastgir was the Federal Minister for Commerce; however in the new Federal Cabinet, he was allotted the Portfolio of Defence. Whereas Khawaja Asif who had been Defence Minister in Nawaz’s government, was not made Minister for Foreign Affairs.
The new Cabinet consisting of Federal Ministers and State Ministers took oath on August 4 at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad.
