Government of PakistanAzadi March Updates: PM Imran Khan directs relief for sit-in participants

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As the Federal Capital is witnessing a heavy downpour which has also turned the weather chilly, Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed an assessment of the relief to be provided to the Joint Opposition’s sit-in participants.

The sit-in by the Joint Opposition led by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) has entered into its fifth day today (Wednesday).

Meanwhile, the heavy rain has been pouring down in Islamabad since last night while according to Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD), the widespread rains would continue to lash the Federal Capital as well as other parts of the Country.

In a twitter statement on Wednesday, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that he has directed the Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Amer Ali Ahmed “to immediately visit the dharna (sit-in) site to assess what relief and assistance can be provided to the dharna participants with the onset of rain and changing weather conditions”.

The JUI-F led Azadi March seeking Prime Minister Imran Khan’s resignation entered in Islamabad on October 31 while a day after, a nine-party Opposition Alliance also held a large public gathering near Peshawar Morr.

In the gathering, the JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman gave a two-day deadline to the prime minister to tender his resignation; otherwise, the Azadi Marchers would turn violent and even head towards Red Zone area to oust him.

Though following the end of the deadline, Maulana Fazlur Rehman withdrew their plan of marching towards D Chowk; however, their sit-in till continues.

In the meantime, a series of negotiations between the opposition’s Rahbar Committee led by Akram Durrani and the government’s Negotiating Team led by Pervez Khattak took place but they have yet to find a common ground to resolve the issue amicably.
