ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif on Thursday said both Afghanistan and Pakistan were victims of terrorism and that there was a need for close cooperation between the two countries to fight this common threat.

Asif made these remarks when he visited the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad to convey condolences over the recent terrorist attacks in Kabul resulting in the loss of precious human lives, infrastructure and a number of people.

“Pakistan strongly condemns terrorism in all forms and manifestations,” Khawaja Asif said.

The minister said it was encouraging that a high-level Afghan delegation which visited Islamabad yesterday had productive talks with Pakistan side and it was agreed to work together to strengthen mutual trust and bilateral engagement.

The Afghan ambassador Hazrat Omer Zakhilwal thanked the foreign minister for his condolences over the recent brutal terrorist attacks in Afghanistan.

While agreeing with the foreign minister about the need for strengthening bilateral engagement, the Afghan envoy said that the cooperation should be focused on upholding our mutual commitment for not letting use of our respective soils against each other.Asif stresses on Pak-Afghan close cooperation to fight terrorism

Earlier the Afghan ambassador Hazrat Omer Zakhilwal received the foreign minister upon his arrival at the embassy.

Khawaja Asif signed the condolence book and offered Fateha for those who have lost their lives. He also expressed sincere wishes for the early recovery of the injured.

The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
