ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Ministry of Interior on Friday announced two public holidays on account of Ashura (Muharram 09 and 10) which falls on September 30 and October 1, 2017.

In a notification issued in this regard, the ministry said there would be public holidays on September 30 and October 1, 2017 in all offices, institutions, Banks etc in connection with Muharram-ul-Haram.

Meanwhile in a message on the eve of Muharram-ul-Haram, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Engineer Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has appealed to the countrymen to be conscious of the situation in their surrounding, maintain unity in their ranks and respect feelings of each other’s.

“Ashura e Muharram-ul-Haram reflects an un-parallel nature of event of the history of Islam. The history making act of sacrifice; the exemplary state of tolerance, patience, perseverance and courage of Shuhuda-e-Karbala reflects the rare precedence of steadfastness and commitment against the evil forces of tyranny and cruelty,” the governor said.

Iqbal Jhagra said that this unique event of its kind in the Islamic history carries a great philosophy and is a source of inspiration for all the times to come. Let this historic event may become a source of inspiration and to spreading the message for struggling against ignorance; diseases; poverty; social evils and to ensuring better future for the coming generations as well.

“At this sagacious occasion, I take the privilege to appeal my countrymen to be conscious of the situation in their surrounding; maintain unity in their ranks; observe highest level of tolerance; demonstrate the spirit of fraternity and brotherhood and respect the feelings of each other’s,” he said.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor said that this also is the message which one may derive from the spirit of Islamic brotherhood and the best way to pay tributes to the martyrs of Karbala. ‘Allah Almighty bless us all.’
