Islamabad, Pakistan: President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi has said that artists being the invaluable part of the society.

While chairing 9th meeting of Steering Committee for Federal Government Artists’ Welfare Fund here at Presidency, President Dr. Arif Alvi today, he was of the view that artists played a pivotal role for promotion of art and soft image of the country.

The Committee considered names of 275 artists belonging to all four provinces for financial assistance.

The President said that the basic purpose of this fund was to provide financial support to the needy artists. In this regard, he underlined the need of accurate data base to ensure disbursement of funds in a transparent manner.

The President further said that artists being the invaluable part of the society had rendered enormous services for the promotion of art and soft image of the country. Therefore, it is our responsibility to look after them at the time of need, he added.
Federal Government Artists’ Welfare Fund was created in 2011 with seed money of Rs 200 million. Objectives of the creation of this Fund were to provide financial help to the Artists or their families in the following circumstances:- a) When an artist is in impoverished condition and needs financial support, b) During the period, when an artist is inactive due to told age, health condition, or otherwise handicapped from accident or disease, c) After the death of an artist, financial support to his/her family.
He thanked all the members of the committee and philanthropists for their participation and efforts in this noble cause of resolving the issues of the artists. Private members of the Committee Dr. Ali Jan, Misbah Khalid, Khalid Anam, Adeel Hashmi,  Atif Aslam, Roshan Khursheed Bharucha, and Abaseen Yousafzai were also present.

Chief of the Air Staff expressed his gratitude for the honour of receiving the Bahrain Medal - First Class. On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
