ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government has allocated Rs 1614.266 million for 15 ongoing and 10 new schemes of Ministry of National Food Security and Research under its Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the financial year 2017-18.

According the PSDP 2017-18, an amount of Rs 1277.819 million has been earmarked for 15 on-going developmental projects whereas Rs.333.447 has been allocated for 10 new schemes.

An amount of Rs 500 million has been allocated for the promotion of olive cultivation in commercial scale across the country in order to fulfill the domestic requirements of the edible oil.

In PSDP, 2017-18, the government has earmarked Rs 284 million for national pesticides residue monitoring system in the country in order to make the efficient use of agri-inputs.

An amount of Rs 40.174 million has been allocated for aqua feed production in the country for the commercial important cultureable fishes to develop and promote the aquaculture.

For the implementation of the quality management system at national veterinary laboratory and expending scope of accreditation under ISO, the government has allocated Rs 39.70 million.

Under PSDP 2017-18, the government would spend Rs 181 million for up-gradation of arid zone research institute to the level AZRC and establishment of new adaptive research cum demonstration institute at Seakach, Wana, South Waziristan agencies.

Out of the total amount allocated for new schemes, the government has earmarked Rs 134.920 million for risk based control of foot and mouth disease in country and Rs 50 million for strengthening and up gradation of agriculture and livestock research system of arid zone research institute Umerkot-Sidnh.

Rs 20 million has been allocated for the establishment of citrus research and development board and Rs 22.87 million for the establishment of trout cage farming in Gilgit-Baltistan areas to promote trout farming.

Under PSDP, 2017-18, the government has planned to spend Rs 11.624 million on the strengthening and up gradation of federal pesticides reference and testing laboratories.
