ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Saturday expressed commitment that the accountability process would reach its logical conclusion, putting foundation of a prosperous Country.
While addressing a News Conference in Islamabad, Fawad Chaudhry said recovery of the national kitty plundered by the corrupt elements including Sharif brothers and Asif Ali Zardari was imperative to improve economic condition of the Country. He said the recovery of the looted amount would help bring rates of electricity and gas down and check inflation.
The minister said Sharif brothers and Asif Ali Zardari desired that they should haven’t be asked about the money plundered by them. But, he said, they would either have to return the looted money or go to jail.
Referring to the matter of National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) action to arrest Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shahbaz in Lahore, the minister said the government had nothing to do with the matter as it was related to NAB.
However, he added Hamza Shahbaz should have surrendered himself before the law instead of hiding in his house and using his family members as a shield.
Fawad Chaudhry said Hamza Shahbaz was accused of having transferred money abroad, and he and his family had properties abroad worth Rs 85 billion.
The information minister further said the Country got US$ 60 billion loan since 2008 but major portion of the amount went into the pockets of the rulers and they purchased properties abroad with that amount.
Fawad Chaudhry said politics should have been differentiated from crime, and politicians needed not use politics to cover their crime. He said the media and opinion makers should also have played a role in that regard.
