ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Syed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari has said that 980,000 Pakistanis have been sent abroad for employment by the incumbent government in the last two years.

In a message on the occasion of World Migrants Day being observed on Friday, the Special Assistant said that Pakistan recorded 6.75 percent growth in the economic contribution of Overseas Pakistanis in the Country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

Zulfi Bukhari said that Pakistan received a record US$ 1.84 billion as remittances over the previous financial year despite the outbreak of COVID-19.

The Special Assistant said that bilateral memorandum of understandings (MoUs) in the field of labour and manpower have been signed with Saudi Arabia, Algeria, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Malaysia, South Korea, Bahrain, Japan, and others.

Moreover, MoUs with Spain, South Africa, Syria, Ecuador, Ukraine, Botswana, and Azerbaijan are in the pipeline.
