ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Around 2.2 million trees have been planted across the Country under the Prime Minister’s Green Pakistan Programme during last four years.

Some 1,051,200 saplings were planted in Punjab, 409,300 in Sindh, 202,000 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 232,400 in Balochistan, 130,500 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, 86,330 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 87,000 in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), the official sources told the state-run news agency on Wednesday.

The official sources said that the saplings were planted in different ecological locations of the provinces/ territories including road and canal side plantations, rehabilitation and restocking of historical plantations, restoration and improvement of scrub forests, increase in existing cover or manuove forests, conservation and enhancement in Juniper and Chilghoza forests, watershed and soil conservation in hill and river catchment areas (reserved as well as community forests).

The sources said that steps were also taken for rehabilitation of Guzara and protected forests, protection and augmentation of dry temperate forests and promotion of participatory forestry.
