KARACHI, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said that 172,000 Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) have been blocked across the Country while over 150,000 CNICs are being scrutinized.

While talking to media representatives in Karachi on Friday, the interior minister rejected the impression that 500,000 CNICs have been blocked in Karachi.

The minister said that National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) mega centers are being established in the country to provide better service.

Nisar said that three such centers have been established in North Nazimabad, Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and SITE area of the Karachi at a cost of Rs370 million. He said that these centers have a capacity of processing 3,000 applications daily.

Meanwhile, the interior minister inaugurated mega NADRA Centre in North Nazimabad area in Karachi, and directed the NADRA officials to provide the best possible facilities to people on the centers.

The interior minister said that with the establishment of mega centers, facilities of issuing CNICs and other credentials have been improved.

The minister said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) present government believes in delivery and service, and all institutions are being strengthened so as to make them more vibrant.

Chaudhry Nisar further directed the staff to ensure transparency and accuracy in process of identification to eliminate the fraudulent practices.
