A career as a Professional Officer
Training Scheme
After recruitment as cadets, Pakistan Naval Academy serves as the cradle, grooming them professionally, morally, educationally, mentally and physically. Personality traits of individuals are developed which result in proficient Naval Officers equipped with the highest ideals of loyalty, honour, courage and dedication.
After 1½ years at PNA, the cadets pass out as midshipmen and join ships. In the fleet, they experience the life at sea while working in different areas onboard. After 6 months of training at sea, the midshipmen are commissioned as Sub-Lieutenants.
Note: Free Messing, Accommodation and Uniform will be provided during training.

For Operations Branch Officers
As per the defined procedure, the Operations branch Sub-lieutenants join the Naval Engineering College for 2-1/2 years. During this period these officers undergo an engineering degree program in Electronics, earning them a degree from NUST (National University of Sciences & Technology). After successful engineering graduation, the officers from Operations branch undergo professional courses at various schools which include:
- Surface Warfare
- Under Water Warfare
- Electronic Warfare
- Communications
- Navigation & Operations
With this educational and professional training, these officers are appointed onboard ships to obtain watch-keeping certificates.
For Mechanical Branch Officers
For Mechanical branch officers, 2-1/2 years further training at PN Engineering College in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering earns them the BE (Mechanical) degree from NUST. Then these officers join the fleet seeking watch-keeping certificates onboard ships.
For Logistic Branch Officers
Logistics branch officers join the School of Logistics and Management, affiliated with the Institute of Business Administration. After 2 years of training, these officers earn BBA (Hons) degree and join ships for their competency certificates.
Eligibility Criteria for Navy
- Male citizens of Pakistan
- Age: (On the first day of the month in which entrance test is held)
- Civilian Candidates – 16 ½ to 21 years
- Service Candidates – 17 to 23 years
- (Persons serving in Armed Forces in uniform)
- Marital Status: Unmarried (This condition will not apply in the case of service candidates)
- Height: 162.05 Centimeters (5’ – 4”) Minimum.
Qualification
Candidate must have qualified Matric/ O level and HSSC/ A level with at least 60% marks with any of the following subjects:

How to Get Registered in Pakistan Navy?

For Engineering Cadets
Following are the details for application of Engineering Cadets in Pakistan Navy:
Eligibility Criteria
- Unmarried male citizens of Pakistan.
- Age: Not more than 28 years.
- Height: 162.5 Centimeters (5’ – 4”) Minimum.
Qualification
- BE Electrical/Electronics for Operations and Weapon Engineering Branch of Submarine Service.
- BE Mechanical for Marine Engineering Branch of Submarine Service.
- BE Avionics for Aviation Branch (As per announcement)

For Short Service Commission
Induction of Short Service Commission Officers in following branches of Pakistan Navy is carried out as and when required. Short Service Commission is basically for five years which may be extended and converted into permanent commission:
- Education Branch
- Special Branch (Computer Programmer/IT Specialists)
- Law Branch
Nine months training will be given at various training establishments of Pakistan Navy.
Eligibility Criteria
- Male/Female citizen of Pakistan
- Age: Not more than 28 years

- Qualification: MA/MSC Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Psychology, Islamic Studies, English & Urdu at least 2nd division from a recognized university
For Special Branch as Computer Programmers

Eligibility Criteria
- Male/Female citizen of Pakistan
- Age: Between 20 to 35 years
- Height: 162.5 Centimeters (5’ – 4”) Minimum.

For Law Branch

Ineligibility Conditions
Following are ineligible:
- Twice rejected by ISSB/GHQ/AHQ Selection Board.
- Twice screened out at ISSB.
- PUB by AMB (permanently declared UNFIT by Appeal Medical Board).
- Tested within four months (120 days) gap of previous appearance (for not recommended candidates).
- Tested within one year validity period (As the validity of ISSB/GHQ/AHQ Selection Board stands for one year).
- Withdrawn from any Academy/Training Institution of Armed Forces on any ground.
- Withdrawn from any Armed Forces college/institution on disciplinary grounds.
- Dismissed/removed/debarred from Govt Services including Armed Forces.
- Convicted in a Court of Law for an offence involving moral turpitude.
- Declared medically unfit due to Hepatitis B&C (AMB cannot be requested)
- Declared unfit by any Armed Forces Hospital except those cleared by Appeal Medical Board.
- The candidature of a candidate who will temper his/her academic certificates, conceal or give wrong information to gain an undue advantage will be cancelled and declared permanently ineligible for all types of commission in the Armed Forces.
- Married to Foreign National.
Career As A Proud Sailor
Training Scheme
Recruitment of sailors in Pakistan Navy is carried out twice a year. 1st Batch joins PNS HIMALIYA in the first week of May and 2nd Batch in the first week of November every year.
After enrolment in the navy as a sailor, they join boot camp training in the New Entry School at PNS HIMALIYA . Upon successful completion of initial training, they are allocated different branches and sent for subsequent Technical training. This forms the basis of their technical base, which is consolidated with subsequent professional and technical training at respective schools.

Here is the recruitment procedure for a sailor in Pakistan Navy:
Who Can Apply?
- Nationality: Male citizens of Pakistan
- Age: For all categories except for MTD and Naib Khateeb is 16 to 20 Years, for MTD branch 16 to 24 Years, for Naib Khateeb not more than 35 Years
- Marital Status: Unmarried. However, not applicable to MTD branch and Naib Khateeb candidates
- Height 162.5(5′-4″) cm for all branches except for NP/Marine, for PTI & Music branch is 170 cm (5′-7″). For Female Technician 152.4 cm (5 ft.)
Qualification
- Operation/Aviation/Marine Engineering/Logistic: Matric with 65% marks in agg.
- Female Medical Technician: Matric with 65% marks in agg.
- Naval Police/MARINE/PTI/Musician: Matric with 60% marks in agg.
- CHEF/Steward: Matric with 55% marks in agg.
- MTD: Matric. Holding a valid driving licence
- TO PASS/Sanitary Worker: 8th Class Pass
