No funds released to IB for political purposes: Spokesman

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government has rejected as baseless and malafide assertions made in a section of media that funds were released to the Intelligence Bureau (IB) for political purposes.

In a statement, an official spokesman clarified that an amount of Rs2.5 billion released to IB was specifically made to procure equipment for countering terrorism.

The spokesman said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government cannot even think of using public funds for purposes other than stated as it believes in complete transparency.
