ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government has decided to release 572 Pakistani prisoners languishing in their jails, the Foreign Office in Islamabad said on Thursday.
In his weekly media briefing in Islamabad, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal said that our mission in the UAE is in touch with the UAE authorities in order to expedite their release and deportation.
The Emirates-wise, numbers of Pakistani prisoners to be released, is as follows:
Abu Dhabi / Al Ain – 262
Dubai – 177
Sharjah – 52
Ajman – 65
Fujairah – 16
Total – 572
To a question, the spokesperson said that we will also hear a good news regarding release of Pakistani prisoners in Saudi Jails very soon.
Dr Faisal also said that 50 Pakistanis were deported from the United States yesterday through a chartered flight.
The majority of Pakistanis – deported by the US authorities – were overstaying in the United States.
The US authorities had recently launched a crackdown on the foreigners who stayed in the United States even after the expiry of their visas.
Meanwhile, nine Pakistani illegal immigrants deported by the Greece authorities were taken into custody after their arrival at Islamabad International Airport by a separate flight and shifted to the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Anti-Human Trafficking Cell.
