TOKYO, Japan: The Chairman Japan-Pakistan Business Cooperation Committee (JPBCC) Teruo Asada hosted a working luncheon for the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Tokyo on Tuesday.

Representatives from leading Japanese Corporations having strong presence in Pakistan also participated in the meeting.

The foreign minister highlighted that out of all the G-7 Countries, Pakistan had a long-standing trade and investment relationship with Japan, and that there was a need to build upon the reserve of goodwill, understanding and respect for brand Japan in Pakistan.

Qureshi also elaborated on the economic agenda of the new government under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan and how it was determined to overcome the current economic challenges through peace oriented, investment friendly, development focused and people centered strategies.

The minister briefed on Pakistan’s economic credentials and invited Japanese companies to invest in the IT Sector, SMEs and agriculture value chains. He also encouraged members of the JPBCC to visit Pakistan and further explore the huge opportunities in trade and investment.

The two sides also discussed strengthening economic cooperation and increasing bilateral investments and exerting all possible efforts to eliminate obstacles and overcome difficulties that obstruct the smooth flow of trade and investment between the two countries.

The Chairman JPBCC Teruo Asada expressing his satisfaction on the growing trade and investment relations and briefed on the successful visit of Advisor to the Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Razaq Dawood in December last year.

Both sides also expressed satisfaction at the ongoing free trade negotiations between Pakistan and Japan.

The JPBCC was established in 1983-84 in order to promote trade, investment, tourism and economic activities involving the business communities of both Countries.
