Monitoring Desk: The President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain met Tajik President Emomali Rahmon at SCO meeting and both heads of states agreed upon to enhance bilateral relations.

According to an official statement issued by the Foreign Office of Pakistan, President Mamnoon Hussain, who is on a visit to Qingdao, China, to attend the 18th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of SCO Member States today met President Emomali Rahmon, on the sidelines of the Qingdao Summit.

The heads of states also discussed the issues of strengthening regional stability, joint fight against terrorism, extremism, illegal drug trafficking, transnational crime, as well as other regional and international issues. It was extremely important to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan and to establish peace and stability in this country for Tajikistan and Pakistan.

Both leaders held in-depth consultations on matters of mutual interest. They reviewed progress in bilateral relations, expressed satisfaction on close fraternal relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening ties between the two brotherly nations.

They noted the bilateral economic potential between Pakistan and Tajikistan and agreed to make joint efforts to substantially increase bilateral trade.

The two leaders also examined the prospects of cooperation in areas of trade and economy, investment, culture, education, science & technology, defense and people-to-people contacts.

Referring to Pakistan’s energy requirements, the President of Pakistan stressed early completion of CASA-1000 and expressed Pakistan’s interest in promoting connectivity with Central Asia through Tajikistan.

Tajik President expressed his desire to further strengthen brotherly relations to enhance economy, prosperity and well-being of the two nations.

The two leaders also discussed regional situation and reiterated their commitment for regional peace and stability.

President Emomali Rahmon expressed satisfaction over the unprecedented level of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries and expressed the interest of the Tajik side for further enhancement of ties.

During the meeting, which took place in a friendly and friendly atmosphere, the development of cooperation in the spheres of political, military, economic, energy and joint development of infrastructure projects as an influential factor of regional cooperation and security and stability in the region.

It was highlighted that the development and expansion of trade and economic ties is of vital importance to the intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Commercial Cooperation.

During the consideration of the issues of cooperation in the field of energy, the timely implementation of the Program of the regional significance of the CASA- 1000 and other existing projects is needed to achieve constructive goals.
