ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan will participate in the Kuala Lumpur Summit 2019 due to take place in Malaysia from December 18 to 21 on the invitation of his Malaysian Counterpart Mahathir Mohamad, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal said.

In his weekly media briefing held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad on Friday, Dr Faisal said that the Kuala Lumpur Summit is an initiative of the Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad together with the participation of leaders, scholars and intellectuals. It is a platform to exchange views on the current challenges and to work together to address them.

Kuala Lumpur Summit to take place from December 18 to 21

The Spokesperson said that the Kuala Lumpur Summit would provide Pakistan with the opportunity to exchange views and find solutions to the challenges facing the Muslim world particularly governance, development, terrorism and Islamophobia.

Dr Faisal said that the Summit will also provide us an opportunity to foster cooperation in diverse areas with the participating countries.

Prime Minister Imran Khan to reconvene Global Refugee Forum in Geneva

Separately, the Foreign Office Spokesperson also said, that Prime Minister Imran Khan is scheduled to reconvene the first-ever Global Refugee Forum (GRF) in December in Geneva, which is being organized in recognition of Pakistan’s generosity, hospitality and compassion in hosting Afghan Refugees for over 40 years.

Dr Faisal said that the Global Refugee Forum – the first major meeting on refugees of the 21st Century – will be jointly hosted by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and the Government of Switzerland on December 17 and 18, 2019.

The Spokesperson said that several other Heads of State are expected to join Prime Minister Imran Khan as co-conveners.
