ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan Dr Irfan Yusuf Shami has been promoted to BS-22 from BS-21, as per a notification issued on Tuesday.

Besides Dr Irfan Yusuf Shami, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Argentina Ayaz Mohammad Khan and Pakistan’s Ambassador to United Arab Emirates (UAE) Moazzam Ahmed Khan have also been promoted to BS-22.

Their promotions were approved on the recommendations of the High Power Selection Board.

Officers will assume charge on availability of posts, which will be transferred to the Mission in the order of seniority,” said the notification issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad.

Born on November 21, 1959 in Rawalpindi, Dr Irfan Yusuf Shami has been serving as Pakistan’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan since July 2017.

Irfan Shami has undertaken official and personal visits to over 60 countries worldwide and represented Pakistan in various sub-regional, regional and international forums.

Dr Irfan Yusuf Shami joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan as a career diplomat in 1987.

Prior to being assigned the duty of ambassadorship in Uzbekistan, he also served Pakistan as its Ambassador in the Republic of Yemen from 2012 to 2015.
