Islamabad, Pakistan: Pakistan has urged United Nations (UN) to appoint a special envoy on Kashmir and protect Kashmiris from Indian aggression.

Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahid Khan Abbasi while his meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in New York on Thursday demanded United Nations to appoint a special envoy on Kashmir. PM said that it was necessary to appoint Special envoy for Kashmir because India has closed all the doors on any dialogue and is killing innocent civilians at both side of Kashmir valley.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi raised the issue of Kashmir with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in detail and handed a dossier documenting human rights violations in Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir.

PM Abbasi informed UN Secretary General that Indian firing along with Line of Control (LoC) and Working Boundary resulted martyrdom of four innocent persons but before his meeting with UN Secretary General. PM has expressed deep grief and condolences with the bereaved families of the martyred.

PM briefed the UN Secretary General about ceasefire violations by Indian security forces along LOC and said there had been around 600 violations this year alone.

PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and the UN Secretary General also discussed the situation in Afghanistan and agreed on the need for a negotiated settlement to bring lasting peace in Afghanistan. PM also called for an expansion of UNMOGIP.

UN Secretary General said Pakistan is very dear to his heart. He had visited the country many times. The UN Secretary General said he himself witnessed Pakistan’s counterterrorism operations and he was a great admirer of Pakistan’s efforts.

“I am a great admirer of Pakistan’s democratic consolidation”, the UN Secretary General said.
